Title: booklet printing size issues
Post by: kenhan on January 25, 2013, 10:56:04 PM
Hi,

I'm new to DTP and Scribus 1.4.2 on OS X 10.8.2.

I have a 4-pane booklet I'm working on where each pane is 8.5H x 5.5W (that is, half the letter page size when held in landscape orientation), which I'm trying to booklet print to HP LaserJet 3800dn to a letter-size paper. That way, I hope, each 8.5H x 5.5W pane will be one half of one side of the paper, and folded in half will give me a booklet I desire.

By trial and error Scribus is printing the panes in the right order and in the right orientation, but it is scaling each pane and not filling up the paper as intended. Each of the 4 panes are anchored in the lower left corner of their respective positions, leaving huge gaps toward to the top and to the right of each pane.

Can anyone help which of the print setting is relevant here?

Thanks.

hi kenhan

are you printing out of scribus (from the .sla file)?
you should export a pdf file and print your booklet with a pdf reader. (adobe reader has a booklet printing option...)

Thanks utnik,

Yes, I was printing out of .sla file. But can you elaborate a bit? Is Scribus not capable of printing correctly that I have to go through an extra step?

hi ken

scribus is in first place a tool for the generation of high quality print pdf files. that's what the program is excellent for.
in some environments the direct print from scribus works well, in others it doesn't.
i never print out of the .sla file (except for testing...)
