Just to keep record:

v 1.6.1 and still problems.

"Do not split paragraphs" along with "keep with next" and "Orphans/Widows = 2" on the next one does still break to the next column between the heading and the text. :-(

sla import is a feature that is not used very often and has shown issues in the past.

if you have test files that show the problem, can you please open a ticket and attach them there?

Thanks Ale, will try it..

Now I'm facing with a really unexpected issue using "adobe source serif pro / 4" sized 12pt":
(as you know) in Italian language we need some accent on vocals letters, and sometimes they can be after a "full stop mark", for instance:

Ciao ciao, andiamo al cinema tornerò alle eccecc.
Dov'è andato? Devo parlargli.
È andato al cinema.

On the last line we have a capital "E" with accent.
The problem is that I obtain a big vertical space before that line, like that character needed much more space over.

The following image should explain better what happens:

I tried the same font on other software, like libre office writer for instance, but it appears regular as expected... The issue appears just in Scribus.

I'm off topic here, I likely should open a new one focused on this issue.. anyway hope some body know if there is a way so solve.

Thanks in advance!
Bye

EDIT
The above issue appears with "align to baseline grid" option activated.

General Discussion / Re: day variable

I have tried inserting a variable text mark in several places and it works correctly, even when you use different text styles in each place (changing font or alignment to left-centred-right).

But I can't manage to apply "align text forced justified" to the variable text markup.

Is it possible to apply "align text forced justified" to a variable text markup?

That's pretty interesting. Also I have the option to temporary create the article in a copy of that document and then import it when the other articles are ready. So it would add them at the end. Fun part I saw (V 1.6.1) is, when importing, it adds new pages with their text boxes, then adds another text box (slightly misaligned) with the imported texts on top. Needs some manual work to clean up/reposition/reconnect the text boxes but it seems to be working as well. The styles and images etc. were preserved so the workload seems acceptable.

Thanks very much for your inspiring ideas :)

i have a trivial two lines patch against the current code that prevents "Extras > Hyphenate" from hyphenating words that start with a soft hyphen.

i have to check what happens when "hyphenate while typing" is on.
if you first type the soft hyphen, it seems to respect it.
when you go back and add it later, then the word gets hyphenated.

finally, i think that we also should make the soft hyphens visible when the control chars are shown...
does anybody have a suggestion on how to do it?
i've checked libre office and it adds an hyphen with a dark gray background. sadly, this changes the layout so i don't think it will be a solution that can be used in scribus.

ps.: note to self: a vertical light gray bar before between the letters could be a good solution...

the "standard" way for avoiding the hyphenation of a word is to put a soft hyphen in front of the word.

a long time ago cezary even made a patch for it:

https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=10517

according to the comments in the ticket, scribus seems to already have some code that tries to implement it but fails...

i've made a patch to limit the number of copies done by the page tab of multi-duplicate:

https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17175#c51038

with it you can create a chain of text in this way:

multi-duplicate-link.gif

for single layout pages, it's ok to copy one single frame on the following pages, for document with facing pages, you mostly will want to select one frame on the left page and one (linked) frame in the right page...
... and don't forget to check the "link text" option : - )

(without the patch, it will fill to the end, which is not what you need here)

Text and Typography / Prevent linebreaks and hyphen ...
Last post by JLuc - March 14, 2024, 12:55:45 PM
I wish i could prevent linebreaks and hyphens in some specified text.

emails should not be hyphenated. hyphenation is hard to distinguish from a real included dash.
+ sometime emails include a dot or a dash like my.na-me@provid.er but i dont want any linebreak or hyphen to break any part of that text.

Idealy this would be achieved with text having a specific character style. But i dont thing it is possible as for now. Is there a way ?

Possibly using a script ?
