Title: does paste image from clipboard create a Base64 encode of image in sla file
Post by: kihn on June 25, 2017, 06:20:04 PM
I copied what appears to be the Base64 portion out of the sla file and I used certutil in Windows to decode.  certutil states the command completed successfully.  However, when I try to open the file in different programs, the programs report the file has errors, is corrupted or damaged.

If it wasn't Base64, my guess is certutil would result in an error, which I have encountered in the past.

I can open the sla file without any problem in Scribus and the image is shown.  Image Info displays the image as Embedded.

Any ideas?  Thank you.

would you mind to reveal us what you are trying to do?

if you just want export to a file an image that was embedded into the .sla, well, just right click on the image and deactivate the embedding... you will be prompted for a name to save it.

Images shouldn't - generally - be pasted into a Scribus document. Pasted images are for specialised purposes only. Use image frames instead.

while i -- generally -- agree with garry, there are cases when pasting images into scribus can be incredibly useful.

my use cases was: recreating (and localizing/modernizing) a document that i could download as a pdf.

i could open the pdf in inkscape and then copy paste each frame of text and each image into scribus.

in most cases, i was, un-embedding the images as soon as they were in scribus and -- so -- i agree with garry that in most cases it's not really a good idea to keep the images embedded in the .sla.

as  an example, when working with images that come from the web, i always prefer to first download them to my disk, move them to a directory in my scribus project and then load them in an image frame.

Creating a template that could be used for easy screen captures.  The screen captures wouldn't typically be saved to disk, but pasted directly into the template.  In worst case scenarios, where I didn't create a PDF or some other output that would make the screen prints available in their original capture, and Scribus wasn't available, I was hoping I could use the Base64 (however, not sure it is Base64) in the sla file to easily recreate the image.  I can do this with LibreOffice's Draw when the file is saved as a Flat XML ODF Drawing (.fodg).

Further testing:  I exported an svg from Scribus and was able to recreate the image from the Base64.

When I copy and go to Edit | Paste, Paste is not enabled, so I used the Insert | Insert Image Frame.

Thank you for the replies.
