Title: Text filter giving gibberish
Post by: mernda on December 02, 2016, 03:54:25 AM
Hi there, new user to Scribus here.

I've been trying to use the Text Filter importer when loading an .odt file in order to apply paragraph styles using it. Problem is that it gives me a load of gibberish in the frame:

And opening up the story editor isn't much better:

...this goes on for a while.

This happens even when I don't apply any actual filters in the importer, and happens with different .odt files too. When importing the file using the other importers (Automatic/.odt importer), the text imports fine.

Any one have any ideas/suggestions?

I don't think the text filter works on other files than text files.

I don't use this feature much but I'm fairly sure you need to choose the correct importer for the file type, e.g. "OpenOffice.org Writer Documents" for ODT files.

The gibberish looks like what you would get if you loaded an ODT file into a plain text editor.

Following on from what Nermander said, I think the "Text Filters" importer is for text files that have been formatted in a specific way, E.g. https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Using_the_Text_Filter

Thanks all for the help! Seems I misunderstood the original instructions I was following - using a .txt file instead of .odt file works perfectly!
