What affects more on the size of the files? I looked at the images and the pdfs occupy only a few kb, the tables perhaps?

should be the same (and the same file size, if the resolution and compression is the same...)

images can add a good amount to the file size. but as i said before, it depends on the resolution and compression of them.

At least in the past Scribus used to place each individual glyph separately on the page, which means the coordinates information takes a lot more space than if the text is instead placed line by line. I am not sure if there has been any changes to this.

Also embedded fonts can take up a lot of space.

Glyph is the symbol representing a letter.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glyph

So, to clarify, while many applications would do something like:

Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "Hello World!"

Scribus would do something like

Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "H"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "e"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "l"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "l"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "o"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "W"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "o"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "r"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "l"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "d"
Move to xxx, yyy
Insert "!"

And of course the latter will make the file larger.

The example I gave you is how Scribus will output the text into the PDF if you have a text frame with the text "Hello World!".

hi jim,

i've dragged images from a file manager into scribus, both directly on the page and in an existing image frame and i got exactly the same .sla file.
the image frame gets linked to the image file.

i don't think that scribus has multiple ways to store text frames, so the same text will lead to the same amount of bytes in the .sla file.

back to the image, the way to have different .sla file is by embedding or not the image in the .sla.
for normal cases, the suggested way is not to embed images in the .sla.
