Scribus forums / Re: PDFs won't display in Scribus

I have had problems previously with importing/linking files that were in a cloud drive. Another problem is the pdf version that is trying to be imported into scribus, I always try and save to pdf 1.4, if there are layers in the pdf, masks or clip paths in the pdf, etc...  Also have you tried the preview settings to make sure the 'image visible' is checked on for each image...  Just some ideas, let me ruminate and see if anything gets shaken loose from my brain.

Cheers!

Congrats for this project!
When thus will be included into scribus I think many people will change their opinion about scribus.

I only saw the screenshots, but as soon as I can I will test it

Hi Interfacetestedbychildren,

thanks for your warm words, it is a great motivation to keep on it. :D
I checked out the webpage of this tool and it looks pretty nice. Could it be that this tool has been called "Swift Publisher" in the past? I have it already in my list of DTP's

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JKMucX1c4wzxVbpJShCLpjJYiVEXCUORo6M8pXJXkws/edit?usp=sharing

But I added yours as a new one too.
Just an update at this point: The development for the new UI doesn't stopped, but it's just a bit slow :(

regards
Martin

Text and Typography / Re: Can't use emojis
« Last post by Jago on September 13, 2017, 12:30:53 am »
i've used https://github.com/MorbZ/OpenSansEmoji

Hi a.l.e
I downloaded that font and tried to write something in scribus with it but it doesn't worked. I see only a rectangle when copy paste into a text frame. I also tried with the Segoe UI Emoji from windows but all emojis are black rectangle. What do I do wrong? I trie to input this one: 😎 (Code: 1F60E)

thx for your support and have a good time...

Scripts and Plugins / Re: setting frame text without resetting style

stelf came up with this solution:

https://gist.github.com/stelf/d4e72a19ce1dbb18bffce4d4768d48ba

Code: [Select]
import scribus

tb = 'Text2'
repl = 'new cntent'

l = scribus.getTextLength(tb)
scribus.selectText(0, l-1, tb)
scribus.deleteText(tb)
scribus.insertText(repl, 0, tb)

l = scribus.getTextLength(tb)
scribus.selectText(l-1, 1, tb)
scribus.deleteText(tb)

which is also what you would do in the UI.

i hope that someday the way formatting is defined will be fixed... until that time such hacks will be needed...

Hi Radu,
We do share an SLA file in the cloud.  We are both working in the document and I can import and display PDFs, but she cannot.  Each of us need to be able to insert/import PDFs.  What is really weird is that some of them import but most do not.  I can import all of them.  Even weirder, she can open all of the PDFs in Acrobat, but many do not import into Scribus.

Scripts and Plugins / setting frame text without resetting style
« Last post by eudoxos on September 12, 2017, 09:18:20 pm »
I am working on a collaboratively translated document (a comic book) with many irregularly distributed text frames with different styles (think of descriptions, callouts, etc); the style is set per-frame. I export plain-text of text frames into google document, let people improve the translation, then load it back (it is a bit more complicated to match frames with pages and such, but that's is not important now).

I set new text of each frame, something like:
Code: [Select]
for page in range(1,scribus.pageCount()+1):
  for frame in scribus.getPageItems():
    if frame[1]!=4: continue # not a text frame
    newText=... # grab new text value
    scribus.setText(newText,frame)
but what happens is that styles of processed frames are reset.

Is there a way to set text while preserving the style information? Note that even in (rare) cases of multi-paragraph frames, they still all have the same style which I applied to the frame itself.

Thanks!

Sorry, but why do you need to open a PDF with scribus? Why not share with her the full package of your scribus file (images,fonts,etc) and work on that file?when you finish the work you will export the pdf to print

hello tim_occ

i just found another interesting approach on dtp programs
with a imho very clean and intuitive user interface

done by https://www.belightsoft.com/products/printworks/

apparently it lacks on the options side
it s also not open,
but maybe its a interesting thing look at.

A mouse menu (like krita) fired by a shortcut to toggle between the tools
could be an interesting idea how to save some precious space
and get even more of the worked on document to be displayed somewhere in the future.
Just to have something to think/dream about for the long terms :)

I hope this an interesting information
and i also want to take this opportunity to thank you for the amazing work you all have done so far.
I know it's pretty damn hard to actually change something.

For me it's like a miracle, everytime i read through this feed and see how it evolved over the years. It makes me smile.
It might seem like a small step sometimes, but if you look at it for them long term period it changes things pretty massive.

this is just for documentation purposes, I have no time right now, just money :(
but I will be here for the next years if I can.

Thank you and have a great time.
