I have to move my project to another computer (From Ubuntu 12.10 to Linux Mint KDE). Besides the .sla file, are there other files I need to move?
hi wamukota
besides the .sla file you need all the placed images – and make sure, that the used fonts and color profiles are available.
with: 'file' ➝ 'collect for output' ('include fonts', 'include profiles') you can copy all the needed files in a folder and move it to the other machine.

Oh, as simple as that. Sorry that I didn't look into that option :-[
Just note that any fonts will usually have to be installed on the target machine, just having them in the collected folder does not make Scribus use them.

this is not true for scribus!
scribus finds fonts from:
- the standard font directory of the operating system
- directories, whose paths are entered as 'aditional paths' in the scribus font prefs
- the directory which contains the actual .sla file

When I moved a scribus file the program was unable to locate images, even though they were not moved. I had to create a shortcut to original location, open that then save to new destination.
Moving files to another machine is a problem for any program of this type using linking. The 'collect for output' does the job, but dumps everything in one directory which generally isn't what one would want, but I can't think of a good alternative.
Saving as .pdf works, but opening a .pdf file ignores images, presumably due to Scribus only using linked images.

I thought Scribus only read fonts during startup? But at startup Scribus does not know the path to a document that has not yet been opened?
Are you sure Scribus will really read fonts from the directory that contains the SLA? I know for sure it didn't in 1.3.5 (because I tried), but I haven't tried it with newer versions.
