If I want to install Scribus on Windows or Mac, I just download and install. Linux is another story:
1. Ubuntu - The Scribus friends PPA only provides trunk builds, and Ubuntu itself is providing an 1.4.2 SVN version. The other repositories only have 1.4.3 and don't support 14.04
2. Fedora 20 - The mrdocs repository has errors and there is no rpm in the directory for Fedora 20
3. Arch Linux - Nothing in AUR for it. (not Arch's fault, more community)

Why bother with the AUR? Scribus is in the community repository.
michael@bivy ~ % pacman -Ss scribus
community/scribus 1.4.4-2 [installed]
Desktop publishing software
michael@bivy ~ %
Current release is just a
`sudo pacman -S scribus` away.
I use Netrunner, a distro based on Kubuntu. Kubuntu is a KDE version of Ubuntu. Should I select Ubuntu?
I use Debian and MX-14 and AntiX-15
I used to use Mepis but there will not be any more versions of that Distro produced as far as I know.
These are all based off of Debian itself.
Thank goodness the Mepis community which maintains Mepis and MX-14 and AntiX-15 puts the stable versions of Scribus in their own repository.
I wish there were more recent versions available in Debian itself.
we're at Fedora 23 already. please make scribus more gnome friendly. also a 'dark-theme' variant would be great! I'm still hoping to see scribus using a headerbar on gnome, and a dark ui. stable and installable from gnome-software.
Thanks for the feedback.
Just one heads-up: help us make it more gnome friendly. We're all volunteers here.
I created the homebrew formula for Scribus on OSX (https://github.com/scribusproject/homebrew-scribus)
Want something, then lean in and help.
Cheers
