Layout Issues / Re: Booklet layout for legal paper - having trouble
« Last post by mnawij on January 15, 2019, 05:33:48 am »
Hi Stavrogin78,

With only four pages, manual imposition would work easier than trying to impose the four pages.

1. Create scribus document with 2 legal size sheets
2. Use guide to split pages in half and any other margins needed
3. First Sheet (front) layout would be page 4 left half and page 1 right half
4. Second Sheet (back) layout would be page 2 left half and page 3 right half

Hope this helps.   Also see   https://www.gerv.net/software/booklet/   for a website javascript to help layout future larger books manually.

General Discussion / Re: Importing 1.5XX files into 1.4XX

Hi bobbiescap,

Try installing https://flatpak.org/ and https://flathub.org/home and install scribus beta which is 1.5.x.

I use it in Linux Mint Debian Edition and seems pretty stable, just an idea.

Cheers!

General Discussion / Importing 1.5XX files into 1.4XX
« Last post by bobbiescap on January 15, 2019, 02:36:34 am »
Hi folks,

I have changed distros and gone back a version with Scribus in the process. I was running Debian Jessie originally with a 1.4 version, then moved to Manjaro, which offers a 1.5 version.

Due to other problems with Manjaro on this machine, I have gone back to Debian, this time Stretch, and even in the unstable Debian version they are still running 1.4 and the only way I can install 1.5 is via Appimage, which I have found to be frustratingly unstable.

Problem is that 1.4 will not open files created in 1.5 and I cannot find a way to do it. This means that I have to start almost from scratch with a multi page document that was created in 1.5, and health issues is making that a very daunting prospect.

Does anyone know of a way to import 1.5 version files into 1.4 please?

This site does not use a secure connection (https) but a normal connection http. It is "normal" that browsers like Chrome or Firefox to display those warnings. It's not your PC or your browser

Scribus forums / How can I use Scribus to create a web site wireframe or mockup?
« Last post by ehepperle on January 15, 2019, 12:21:35 am »
First time poster.

Loving Scribus as an alternative to InDesign and have been using it for newsletters, manuals, project proposal, and resumes.

I haven't been able to find any tutorials on how to take a standard landscape 11 x 8.5 letter-size document in Scribus and build a Bootstrap-compatible guide template. I know Scribus is for document design and I've had fun designing various documents with it. I'm just wondering can it be used to create -- for instance -- a 12-column webpage layout, with gutter -- like my wife does in her InDesign files?

Thanks

Free discussion / FireFox rejecting forum address login option as not secure
« Last post by JohnJR on January 14, 2019, 09:15:42 pm »
Hi Folks,

I wanted to login (username, password) to the forums, regarding another issue than this one, and received a Firefox 64.0 "this site is not secure" warning from the login window, the address is the one I've always used (I thought because it has always come up automatically from this site): www.forums.scribus.net/canvas.  Adding https:// to the address produced ever more dire warnings from Firefox, so of course I stopped.

Blocked from my account, I saw no way to contact you; none of the contact options do anything but go around in a circle or have no active links.

There is no help on Google for this, thus I tried a different browser, Safari.  With the same Scribus address and the same forum window came right up with the login option.   the login procedure did not give me any warnings and logged me in for this post.  Safari didn't bother to tell me if the proper https:// had been added to the selection, who knows.

I'm nearly a complete neophyte, but this seems to me to be a case of Scribus needing to get righteous with FireFox, who monitors security more closely than other browsers it seems.  Can you do this, or will you do this?  The issue seems to the neophyte to be one of proper SSL certification.

As a side note, my iMac with OS X 10.11.6, perhaps because of me, crashed with the big stop sign "Signal 11 Error".  Upon recovery the Scribus document that was open has since operationally mis-behaved and is sporadic in ways that are bizarre.  I ran my Malware app. and it shows me to be clean, however I think you can see why I would and should take a FireFox warning very seriously.

Thanks,

John

Raster and Vector Graphics / Re: Image Boxes Failing After Applying Document Settings

That sounds like a distinct possibility! I'm sending said old lady a screenshot with instructions to find the Image Preview options. I'll report back when I know whether or not that fixed it.

Thank you!

PDF Generation / Re: Error message in Preflight Verifier - what does this mean
« Last post by a.l.e on January 14, 2019, 07:10:02 pm »
no, greg, this is not the way pdf versioning works.

at least not in a linear way.

different pdf versions support different features.

but, it's true, in the same family of versions, higher numbers mean that all of the lower version features are supported and some more on top of it.

you should really make sure that you pick the version your print shop is asking for and that you stick to the features that the given version supports.

and be warned, that sometimes print shops have the bad habit of asking for a given version and add further restrictions.
(most of the time, until you're 100% sure that your printshop will manage correctly the transparencies don't use them (or use them in an almost visible place for testing them : - ))

Thanks for the info.

So the way I now understand this, the SCRIBUS version I am working with is warning me that earlier versions of PDF will not support the transparency.

I am using the latest PDF versions so this should not be a problem. However this does give me a heads up that I ought to send a trial file to my printer before I continue to crank out these PDFs in case I'd have to tweak something.

Layout Issues / Re: Text overlapping in same frame despite link with next page
« Last post by theophny77 on January 13, 2019, 08:21:12 pm »
Hi,
It is better now.
I have decided to delete the page that seemed to behave strangely.
Now I add text through the text editor.
Everything is all right sofar.
Thank you.
