Scribus does not have much automatic features, if you want a header at the top of each page to show the chapter name you will have to write the chapter name there. (But you can do it on a master page, and use a different master page for each chapter).

From your questions I don't think Scribus is the tool you should use, I think a PDF generated from Open/Libre Office would be a better solution for you.

Installation and Setup / Re: appimage scribus 1.5.4 - nothing visible in the menus

I just tried to change the Linuxmint theme, but the problem remains the same...
Somebody has another idea?

I've got a 250-page book containing 37 chapters, which is ready to be formatted for print publishing.

1) Can this be done treating the 250-page file as one file, and yet having the program recognize the separate chapters within the file such that the footnotes in each chapter are numbered anew starting with '1'.

2) Again treating the 250-page file as one file, can the header at the top of each page show the chapter name on the left hand pages and the book name on the right hand pages. This would of course require a different chapter name on the left hand pages for each chapter.

General Discussion / Re: Ligatures PDF export

Scribus does not automatically turn URLs into clickable links, this is likely done by your PDF viewer.

In Scribus you will need to manually create a PDF annotation on top of the text, and for that annotation you enter the URL separately.

So the document can display https://www.scribus.net but when clicking on it you reach https://www.google.com.

I don't know anything about Mint, but usually issues like this is because of the graphical theme chosen for the desktop environment.

Try changing the theme?

Installation and Setup / appimage scribus 1.5.4 - nothing visible in the menus
« Last post by elode on July 03, 2018, 08:20:40 pm »
Hello,

I just updated my Linux distribution from LinuxMint 18.3 to LinuxMint 19.
The Appimage version of Scribus 1.5.4, which worked perfectly in LinuxMint 18.3, does not work well in LinuxMint 19.
In fact, open menus are unreadable (all grey).

See the attached screenshot.

Beginner Talk / text not appearing in pdf
« Last post by spaceboxman on July 03, 2018, 07:44:09 pm »
I created a very simple doc for a web sidebar ad. It's just two images and some text. When I export to pdf, the text doesn't appear. I've made sure the properties of the text frames and the layer are set to export. I clicked "embed fonts" on the export panel. What am I missing? I've been scouring the forums for solutions to this problem all day.

Attached the file here for you to take a look.

Installation and Setup / Re: Scribus 1.5.4 AppImage not able to run on Arch Linux

the appimage linked from the official scribus download page should work.

a brave user is working on fixing the recipe for the appimages and getting the "nightly" appimages  also to work again.

https://github.com/scribusproject/scribus/pull/98

"technically" he has solved all the issues and the appimage works again on my computer. but there are a few things that need to be cleaned up and i plan to work on it as soon as i come back from my holidays...

The sla file is 431,295kb and the pdf can be anything from 115,846kb uncompressed to 34,049kb automatic compression with minimum quality.
