hi ruud

could you check the 'about scribus' screen?
the first 'C' of this 'C-C-T-F' stands for 'littlecms'. if it doesn't show, lcms is missing – this could hide the symbol for the color management…

Thanks for the pointer about zooming. I'm embarrassed that I did not find that on my own. It helps to some extent, but I really think the Arrange Pages function could be much improved, perhaps the good folks who do that work will make it so one day.

Hy GarryP,
Yes, Iḿ sure the picture I attached is in Preferences. But I looked in the documentsettings and could not find the icon (the umbrella) there either.

Welcome to the forum Ruud.

Are you sure you're in Preferences and not Document Setup?
In Document Setup, Colour Management can come at the end of the icons instead of the middle (I don't know why).

Hallo community,
A new experience for me: first time on a forum  :o and new to Scribus!
I have Scribus 1.4.6 installed with Mint 18 and I am struggling with color management.

My idea is that I’m missing something. In the preferences should not there be an icon between “Preflight controle” and “PDF Export” (see my screenshot)?
Am I correct in assuming I need that to reduce the color-differences between my PDF-sRGB and PDF-CMYK output?

Thanks in advance for your help

No problem.

I still think a "refresh cache" button would be a nice thing to have. I can't find a ticket in Mantis for this but that doesn't mean one doesn't already exist.

There's a note here: that mentions "In fact I want to rewrite the whole fonts stuff, also enabling multiple copies of the same font..." but it was written in 2006 so I've no idea if anything will come from it.
just been trying out the new Scribus 1.5.3 (64bit Version on Win 10). Trying to insert special characters from the menu has all characters (except page numbers and line breaks) greyed out, so I cannot insert from here Quotes, Ligatures and all other characters provided in the menu.

Garry, thank you again for your efforts.

As far as I personally am concerned, there's no issue (as far as I can tell).  I started out wanting to test the OT features in Scribus and got different results on Win 7, Win 10, and Mac.  That made me think there was something wrong in Scribus' handling of OT or possibly with my font.  After uncovering this weird behavior with the font cache and testing with a renamed font, I'm satisfied that the OT features are working correctly, as is my font.  That's all I need to know.

While most people don't reinstall the same font over and over like I do when developing a font, it certainly can happen (as when an updated version is released).  So it would probably be good to get this problem fixed.  I can file a bug report, unless let's better to proceed in some other way.

utnik, yeah, sorry about mixing up DPI and PPI.

Once I start using one of them I tend to keep using it without noticing, even if it's the wrong one. Hardly any of my output gets printed so there's no practical difference for me.

Maybe "very" specialised was too strong a phrase but I don't think many Scribus users will be printing real black and white. "Fairly specialised" might be more accurate.

The gist of what I was trying to say is that the "average" Scribus user - whatever one of those is - won't have any need for a PPI higher than 300.

I think it's reasonable to say that, with some exceptions:
* if someone is printing something on a normal home/office printer then 300PPI will usually be good enough;
* if someone is getting something printed at a print shop - or similar establishment - then they should ask the print shop what is best.

mwatkins, glad I could help.

You're welcome Don.

The view menu only has limited zoom options but Scribus allows any zoom you want.

Look at the icons at the bottom of the main window. The magnifying glasses give you zoom by 0.5x and 2x current zoom value - CTRL+mouse-wheel allows that same thing - and you can use the text box to their left to give a precise zoom value.

Is that good enough for what you need?
