Title: cannot insert character
Post by: Guillaume on May 05, 2017, 08:39:14 PM
Made small text frame for column name, and got cursor to blink but impossible to insert character, and there is a tiny red X in bottom right;  will not accept paste either.  What is function of tiny X and how to enable editing. Things work fine in other columns.

hi guillaume

the red X is the mark for overflowing text.
either there is already some text in the frame (or just some line breaks...) or the frame is too small to contain the first character (with the present settings...)

Sometimes the frame has to be a lot larger than you might think for text to "fit". Try enlarging the frame a lot and  add your text, then incrementally drag a corner to reduce the size of the frame bit by bit. You may find you need to leave the frame larger than intuition might suggest.

Thanks for the replies.  I tried and did it:  I enlarged the frame a bit and was able to type.  I am still puzzled by the fact that there was no overflowing, the frame was empty and the characters did fit in the frame.
