Beginner Talk / Text re-wrapping upon Export>Image
« Last post by inkuser on January 17, 2018, 09:35:15 pm »
I hope there's a fix for this..when I export pages from Scribus as image, some of them have their text re-wrapped.

I've tried imposing hard returns to preserve the line breaks but this doesn't help.

Is there a setting to instruct Scribus: "keep the line breaks as they are!"  ?

Beginner Talk / Re: Automatic page numbering

As with my previous posts, GarryP, I'm working through Windows 7. I've set up the page numbering through the master pages in my file, and have been working through a tutorial. I tried using Insert>Character>Page Number, which put a hash # in place of the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P, and when I closed Master Pages, all of the pages I had experimented on (FeatureL), had disappeared!

So I don't know what is going wrong, and would appreciate some instructions so that I can go about this in the correct manner.

It looks like the attached screen snip from the PDF.

With Scribus 1.4.6 on Windows 10 the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P short-cut works just fine (as does the related menu item "Insert -> Character -> Page Number").
I've checked Scribus 1.4.6 on Ubuntu 17 and both methods work fine there too.
On Macs the key combination is slightly different but I remember the menu item worked on 1.4.6.

Personally I don't use the short-cut as I don't have to insert a page number very often - never more than once per page and usually only once per master page - and just use the menu item instead.

Have you tried resetting your Keyboard Short-cuts via Preferences and then restarting Scribus? Did that make a difference?

Also, what do you mean by: "Only the command itself is displayed."? What command and where and how is it being displayed? (This doesn't sound like normal Scribus functionality.)

The text alignment icons are (from left to right): Align Text Left, Align Text Centre, Align Text Right, Align Text Justified, and Align Text Forced Justified.
You need the second align icon from the right (note the last "line" on the icon where it doesn't fill the space).

I'm revisiting this topic, despite the fact that it has been discussed previously, because I have been unable to get it to work.

I have tried different configurations of automatic page numbering commands for 1.4.6: Ctrl-Alt-Shift-P, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P (which is what Scribus shows when I go into Insert>Character), and I also tried Alt-Ctrl-# from 1.4.2 initially.

None of these seem to work to produce actual page numbers. Only the command itself is displayed.

I seems as if the command keeps on changing, so how is one to keep up with this?

I have attached an image showing what the l-r justified text looks like in the example magazine that comes with the files that one downloads with the tutorial for Scribus. My "Forced Justified" text displays the paragraph ends as previously described. I would like my paragraph ends to look like the example, so need to know where to find the "Plain Justified" option, as this isn't obvious.

Thanks Nermander. Where would I find "Plain Justified"?

Beginner Talk / Re: Matching colors used in other apps?
« Last post by GarryP on January 17, 2018, 11:57:41 am »
If you import the SVG, Scribus should create a new colour for each colour that is used in the SVG. You can delete the imported SVG - if you don't want it hanging around - but the colours should remain. You could otherwise try exporting from Inkscape to one of the formats supported by the "Import Colours" function on the "Colours" dialog and then importing just the colours using that function.

Once the colours are in Scribus - they should be copied exactly using either of the methods given - you can then look to see if there is a difference. If there is still a difference then more work will be needed to find out why. It could be one or more of any number of things.

Having said all that though, I am wondering why you are re-creating the graphic in Scribus rather than just importing it. Are you doing it for training/experience or was there a problem you are trying to circumvent? Of course it's entirely up to you why you're doing it, I'm just curious.

General Discussion / Re: Hire a designer that is experienced in Scribus

I don't think there are any rules against posting that sort of thing - I don't remember seeing any - but I don't think it is wrong to do so. If you have legitimate work that needs doing and there are people here who want to do it then why not? (I don't have any affiliation with the Scribus project so these are just my personal thoughts on the matter.)

If you can supply more information about exactly what output you want, with time-scales, payment details, language(s) etc. I'm sure you will have some responses (probably via private messages rather than in public).

If you do manage to get someone to do the work - or if it gets done by someone elsewhere - it would be appreciated if you could add a relevant post to this thread so people reading it later know that the opportunity is no longer open. (Less hassle for everyone in the long run.)
