Beginner Talk / Linking test frames
« Last post by patjk on October 15, 2018, 04:48:10 am »
I'm a total novice with Scribus so please overlook my ignorance. I'm trying to typeset a novel, and although I seem to have set up the basics pretty well -- half-title, titlepage, dedication &c. -- the actual body of the text is giving me some major headaches. THe problem is that I am unable to flow text from one frame to the next, and so on. I fill one frame with text and a small box with a cross in it appears at the bottom right, indicating that more text is available. When I hit the 'link text frame' button, arrows appear correctly indicating the text flow. But when I click on the text frame on the next page I get an error message saying "you are trying to link a frame that is already linked." Could somebody give please give me some basic instructions as to how text flow is achieved?
When setting up the project, I selected 'automatic text frames' -- should I have done that? Oh. . . I'm running Scribus 1.4.7 on a 64bit Windows 10 laptop. Thanks.

Export to PDF, then use for example Ghostscript to generate one image per page from the PDF?

Beginner Talk / Bleeds ad export to image

I'm not English, so it doesn't help to understand technical words...

I have to realize a photobook for my child and I need to export a image file for every page. I'm thinking to use the bleeds of 3 mm to avoid cut on important parts and to see a quick preview of the probably final result after the print.

My problem is: I'm not able to export the pages to image with the bleeds part (bleeds are cut during the export). It doesn't happen in the export to pdf (I can export to pdf also the bleeds part).

I have also tried to change dimension page and put bleeds to 0 after the work, but the elements in the page don't remain in the correct position.

How can I do to resolve?

Thank you so much

hi jhamond987

direct printing is not the standard procedure with scribus – and it doesn't work on all systems.
the usual way is to export a .pdf file and print it from a .pdf viewer.

I cant get the debug build working in qt creator.
Do you have a guide on configuring the options to get the debug mode working?

I get the following error:

This does not seem to be a "Debug" build.
Setting breakpoints by file name and line number may fail.

Wow, just started using this awesome program just a week ago. It is incredibly nice layout program for desktop publishing. I do wish it came with a bunch of little graphics to use, but you can't get it all for the price! Anyway, it won't print. I have an HP 1310 printer and every time I try to print something directly, it sends it to the printer, I click on the little printer in the icon tray to see what is going on, because it claims to be printing, but nothing happens. When I double click the little printer icon, it opens my printer, and says there is a document for print, but that it is stopped? I don't stop it, so why is it stopped? I end up clicking on cancel document, because it never does anything? Anyone have any ideas?

pnmtopng is a Unix library and there are some binaries for Windows.

I'm sorry I still can't answer your exact question, but I can give some pointers.  pngtopnm is a standard image file format converter on unix boxes, and so I guess Lily assumes it's there for some of its operations, and it isn't on Windows.  Hence the error message.

In my experiments, using --png with -dresolution=nnn gives exactly the same output as -dresolution=nnn/3 -danti-alias-factor=3 - so it appears not worth using the anti alias factor at all.  Accepting that you will never get an image file as good looking as PDF, since PDF scales, then something like lilypond --png -dresolution=900 should give you a better image than you need.

Thus this explains why I can run error free (in Unix) but you cannot (in Windows).  Try dropping -danti-alias-factor entirely.  And finally have you tried importing pdf into Scribus?
