Title: 64 bit version for Mac OS X?
Post by: toyotadesigner on September 27, 2013, 11:17:50 PM
Does somebody know if there is a 64 bit version of Scribus for the Mac?

The standard *.dmg installs a 32 bit version.

Is an individual compilation via 'Fink' a 64 bit version?

I'm just curious, because I've seen there is a 64 bit version for Windows (and of course Linux).

I'm planning on working on creating a 64 bit Homebrew formula that does this. Interested in helping?
I've started a page on the wiki:

I don't know if I can help - I'm not a coder.
You've mentioned in the wiki that OS X 10.8.5 is necessary, but I am still on OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) with a 64bit kernel (switched to it with '32- or 64-bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector'). Let me know if that would work.

@toyotadesigner
10.8.5 is necessary at the moment because that is what my machine is running.

Lets see if I can get it to work on my version and then when I have time see how to get it to run for you.
Issue is that I don't have a machine running your version that I can run tests on. Also that I've heard it can take quite a lot of time to compile Scribus from source.
I understand that MrB on #scribus Freenode seems to be responsible for bundling the current DMG to run Scribus on OSX. He currently uses MacPorts which is a package manager for Mac to gather all the dependencies to compile Scribus. He may be a good resource as well. He's the one who told me it takes him at least an hour (or more) for the compile to complete!

Also sending a call out to other OSX Scribus users who can help or already have done this. The more people involved the more versions can be tested. More representation for Mac means better possibilities for the evolution of Scribus on the OSX platform.

Sorry about neglecting this. Been dragging my heals with this. I tried downloading a Virtual box and getting 1.5.0svn to run on Ubuntu and that didn't go well. So I'm recuperating.

Haven't announced it on the forums yet, so FYI updated Homebrew formula. Now works with OSX 10.8.5. 64bit (not tested on other versions). The homebrew formula needs some work as it does not install all optional dependencies yet.
