Title: perspective orthogonal lines
Post by: Guillaume on May 14, 2018, 02:16:17 AM
Hello! Am at a loss as to how to erase orthogonal lines in one-point perspective box.  I end up with two squares only.  I can delete all right but erasing part of a line eludes me.  How does one do it in Scribus?

i would probably do it in inkscape and the import the svg into scribus...

that being said can you show what you are trying to do and tell us how you're doing it?

Matt Fussell has written a small tutorial, How to Draw in One Point Perspective, and the idea of making a cube enticed me to try.   The theory asks for a large square and a smaller one inside it.  The two are to be connected by "orthogonal" lines that go from the corners toward the horizon where they gather in one point.  The line segments that extend out and away from the two shapes have become unnecessary and must be erased.  That is where I had a problem, how do you erase without an eraser tool?  I had drawn a number of boxes with the line tool.  That was a wrong choice; I tried the curve tool, did an edit and, with the help of nodes, finally was able to cut away the unwanted segments.

hi guillaume

scribus is not a drawing tool. it's a layout program.

you can do some drawing in scribus and it even has some very advanced feature, but it also lacks some basic features (like snapping to nodes and lines).

can i suggest you to do your perspective exercises with inkscape? (if you want to go for vector drawing)

(and for "erasing" in scribus: you can use the path tools to intersect, unite and cut... but, really, go for inkscape!)

I use GIMP as well as SCRIBUS and didn't want to burden myself with one more activity.  Since you recommend INKSCAPE I will give it a try although I am not much of an artist and the two aforementioned programs keep me quite busy in my leisure time.  Thanks for the suggestions.

you are already burdening yourself with one more activity:

- gimp is for bitmap / photo editing
- scribus for layout tasks

and now you want to do some vector editing...

you can do that in gimp or in scribus, but both are not great tools for it.

Hello again!  I don't like to feel handicapped when trying to achieve  something interesting and will follow your advice and go for it.  So, Inkscape is installed and the manual on its way.  I wonder though if expanding my creativity horizon will complicate or simplify my existence before the little screen.  (I opt for complicate...)
