You mean that the preview mode is not preview mode, just "view mode"? :)

As to the settings...
what you say sounds as if anything bad or unexpected would be caused by wrong settings...

In this case, there is a drop shadow effect..
which works in the preview mode and doesn't in the print preview / output preview...

My problem is that I'd expect a drop shadow to work...

okay: you say that the output preview / print preview should be trusted, right?

if only I had a CMYK printer to test it :)

anyway, I'll take that view seriously...

thanks

Hi,
I have used scribus for various things in the past (CD cover, posters, stickers, flyers, etc.) and I like it quite much. I now wanted to create a longer brochure with footnotes and I am struggling at the very beginning. When I open scribus 1.6.1 on Mac, create a new document and go to the "edit" menu, the entry "Foot and end note styles" is greyed out (remark: I am using the German version, so the name of the menu entry could be a bit different). The same happens when I select a word in a text box, right click and go to "insert text marker": all the menu entries are greyed out.
I am probably missing some setting... Maybe someone has an idea?

Layout Issues / Re: Templates for multiple pag...

As for page templates, you probably created Master pages, and in Scribus those are essentially page backgrounds.

If you want to create a page template to use on several pages you are probably better off using the scrapbook. Design the page layout, select all objects and Send to scrapbook. Then insert a new page (or delete everything on the page) and doubleclick the entry in the scrapbook.

I think scrapbook items also retain layers, so the template can have objects on different layers.

Layout Issues / Templates for multiple pages
Last post by oida - April 11, 2024, 05:36:10 PM
Hi,

just in a learning curve in Scribus and while some things seems easy there are some things  i did'nt understand. While i have found out how to generate a index i was unable to fix two things, which drives me crazy.

1.) use a template for all pages
I created a page template with different frames and now i want to use the template for all pages or better, for pages 6 to 120.

2.) no page numbers on pages 1-5, start counting on page 6 as number 1.
I played a little with the sections but have no success for now. The page numbering is in masterpages, each one for left and one for the right side.

I am using Scribus 1.5.8 under Debian 12.

Please, if you can guide me through this issues this will be of great help.

Thank you all in advance and stay safe

"1. We are committed to fair, transparent and affordable pricing, including perpetual licenses that have contributed to the success of Affinity."

"We know this model has been a key part of the Affinity offering and are committed to continuing to offer perpetual licenses in the future."

"3. We will provide Affinity free of charge to schools and nonprofit associations (NBA)."

See in a few years, the distance or proximity of these two promises.

PDF Generation / Pages have a white line
Last post by Ethnique - April 11, 2024, 01:21:53 PM
I have a document with spreads (ie; facing pages) where an image spans both the left and right pages in the spread. Scribus doesn't allow me to export to PDF with facing pages, so I need to export as single pages and use an external tool for this. Unfortunately the output results in a white line splitting the image in the spreads. Looking closely at the single pages output by Scribus, the left facing pages have a single pixel width white line down the right side. This is what I'm seeing when the pages are merged to spreads. How can I get rid of this white line so that the content on the page goes fully to the edge?

i would guess, that the pdf based print preview gives you results that respect the settings, you have defined in the "export to pdf" dialog.

the "normal" preview, probably just removes all non printable things from the screen...

as you wrote, the golden rule is said to be:"talk to your printer".

OSDP suggestion to ask for a pdf proof is for sure a good one!

if the printer does not offer that, keep in mind that the bigger part of the "talking" is about knowing your printer.
and you can do that even without really being able to talk with them.

you can introduce "dangerous" features in small areas, with details that can fail without ruining the whole work.
and, when the product is printed, you will probably be the only one who will notice, if it has been printed correctly or not.
as an example, if you want to test the drop shadows (in a specific color), you can add add a small 1mm x 1mm box in a corner on a meaningless page.
and then, if everything works correctly, use the feature in your next print job.

this having been said, there is one big issue with this workaround:
the printer can change the workflow at any time, without telling you.
and since printers often have "non standard" requirements (the most common one being: pdf 1.4 without transparencies), this can give you a useless pile of paper.
