Size of PDF files

I have a large publication with lots of images. The .pdf file is huge, around 350 mb. The same content from another program is around 29 mb. If I print to PDF24 print driver, the EPS process is very slow, but I can get file size of 20 mb or greater depending on output quality. Are there setting in Scribus I've missed. I had Ghostscrip installed before I installed Scribus. Will Scibus found it when installed in its default location.

No, Scribus is targeted at creating high quality print ready PDFs. This means that Scribus will place text on the page one character at a time. Most other programs will place text one line at a time, but that does not give the same control over the placing of characters.

And this in turn means that Scribus will set "cursor location" before each character instead of just before each line, making the PDF a lot bigger than with other programs.
