A good, free, and safe SVG to EPS conversion OS X application or website anyone?

Can anyone point me to a good free Mac OS X application, or a free and safe website, where I can convert SVG files to EPS files quickly, safely, and easily?

I know I can use Inkscape to do it, and I've done so many times, but I'm after something that doesn't take up too many resources on my machine (I've only got 2GB RAM and Inkscape on OS X needs X11, or equivalent, to also be running - which along with Scribus + iTunes + Firefox + Mail etc. already running makes my old iMac creak a bit).

And I know ImageMagick can do it but (from what I've been able to find out) it converts to a raster first before converting to an EPS which, to me, sort of defeats the object of using vectors in the first place, but maybe that's just me.

Preferably I'd like something where I can just, for example:
1. Quickly open the small application.
2. Select the SVG file.
3. Press CONVERT.
4. Application saves EPS version to the same directory.
5. Close application and start using the EPS version.

I've looked on the search engines and through various forums but I keep finding Inkscape/Windows/Linux/ImageMagick/Not Free/etc. references which aren't what I'm after. And I don't know which of the websites that offer the functionality really are safe and won't give my files and/or details to anyone who asks.

So, I thought, why not ask the other Scribus users if they have any suggestions. Anyone got something good they can share?

Here's pretty much the full spec: Free; convert SVG to EPS (other conversions not relevant); small memory footprint; safe and secure to use; not demo/trial; no ads or passing stuff on to third parties; Mac OS X ( 10.6.8 ), NOT Windows or Linux.

Thanks in advance for any help.

hi garry

unfortunately i don't know such an application for macOS. but an online converter might be useful as well.
try http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-eps...

Thanks utnik.

I'll give it a try after I look at the site terms and conditions. (I just have an issue about what happens to the images I upload, originator recognition- and copyright-wise.)

Hopefully I'll get some more recommendations and if I get a few I might do a short "review round-up" of those that I try.

Thanks again, Garry.

I know this is an older post, and you probably already found a solution.  But just in case you haven't, or others look to this post for a solution, the best free solution for converting SVG to EPS is InkScape.  It's a free open source drawing program that can read SVG, and save it back out as an EPS file.  It's also a good simple vector drawing program if your looking for an alternative to a purchased app.

You can download it in a pre-built version (Mac, Win Ubuntu) or as the source code from the site: http://inkscape.org/index.php

Note: InkScape uses X11 on Macs. If you are running a Mac with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or newer, you will need to download the X11 software XQuartz as it is no longer included with Mac OS X.  http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

Thanks, but, as I said in my original post, I was looking for an alternative to Inkscape.

I agree that Inkscape is great and I use it a lot but I'd like to use something a bit less "resource heavy".

you can use inkscape from the command line
