Project in several languages

This discussion started in "Graphics".

As I mentioned the problem to have several documents with the same graphics,
John_Jason_Jordan brought the idea, to organise all languages in one document by layers.

I apply now his idea, and bring this to layout issues, because nobody would expect this in graphics, how to make a multi language document.

I use now 4 layers

German
English
Content - my original writings in "simplified English" before translation to "real English"
Background

When I get a page with German to English translation,
my original is background. Simple copy and paste and sent copy to layer German
Now select the remaining original to layer English, chage to layer English
and put the translation into the English layer.

When I get a page with "my limited English" to real English translation,
my original is background. Simple copy and paste and sent copy to layer Content
Now select the remaining original to layer English, chage to layer English
and put the translation into the English layer.

Besde 12 points for standard paragraph,
I have also defined 11 - 11.2 - 11.4 - 11.6 - 11.8 to adjust the area covered by
a text. Text in different languages can be different long.

So it can happen, that an Englisch page in 12 points requires in German to
be reduced to 11.4 points.

What is now unsolved, how to combine documents.

For example, I sent my unfinished book to my spanish translator.

While he translates, I work to finish my book.
Now the translator sends back.

It would require to select one by one evey spanish layer element
and to past to my document.

A method to
"Import all spanish layer from page 20 to 300" would be practical

Remove the other layers from the spanish document and import to a "master document"? (Not sure if it works.)

I looked with UltraEdit on the *.sla file.
Great! Everything easy to edit.

So when Scribus can not do it,
I can use a good text editor or
write a program.
