How does Scribus compare to MS-Publisher and QuarkXpress.

Christen_Anderson

Never used Quark, but I've heard a lot of ex-Quark users who say Scribus is at least as good. I know from my own personal experience that Scribus is better (much more versatile and easier to use) than Publisher. A lot of people even compare it to InDesign (the king of proprietary DTP software). And of course, the price of Scribus beats everyone else - free!  :D

Thanks for the info. I have used inDesign aittitle in college. I was part of the yearbook staff and used inDesign to design the yearbook. I thought it was a bit complicated.

I will give Scribus a go. And yeah you cant beat the price  :D

Hey Christen. Do you know of a general Open Source forum that has discussion about all the software like Scribus, OpenOffice, Peazip etc. I'm trying to find a video editor. I would like to be able to take a bunch of little video clips together to make one video. Would also like to add text. I need something that is easy to use with a alittle more flexibility. I would also like to find an Open Source video format converter for both audio and video. I also want to know if Kompozer is the only Open Source option for Webdesign. How does it company to Dreamweaver and MS-Frontpage...

Hmm... well, I can't answer all of those questions, but I can give you a couple ideas...
As far as a general Open Source forum - I don't know of any, but that doesn't mean there's not one out there.

For video editing, you should check out http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-video-editor.htm

There are also many, many free video format converters out there - just Google it and you'll come up with several options.

As far as web design goes, I've never really explored that, so I can't help you... but I'm sure someone else on this forum can point you in the right direction!

Have a nice night,
Christen
