I have been using the mailing list for a couple of years. I was recently declared a spammer and have been blocked  from using the mailing list.  >:(  I am not a spammer and never have been. How can I be removed from the spammer list?

a.l.e

how did you notice that you're marked as spammer?

i guess that it's your provider that has been marked as a spammer on some blacklist...

at least, i've never seen any mail from you on the mailing list...

but mentioning your email address may help sorting out the issue :-)

Hi a.l.e

Here is the message I get when I try to post:

The original message was received at Tue, 3 Apr 2012 19:03:40 GMT

I sent you a message some time ago, You were going to send a message to someone, I forget who.
My email is tenbear@myfairpoint.net.
When I was first blocked, myfairpoint was blocked by several ISPs. Some hacker had sent emails to users of myfairpoint telling them (us) to verify their emails by sending their email address and passwords. apparently several did and this resulted in a flood of email. I was not one of the people that responded to this email.

I hope you can help, thanks.

PS  You have seen mail from me on the mailing list, you just don't remember. I haven't posted for some time because I am blocked.

all i can suggest you, is to use another free email address (like gmail)
(and it's not scribus who is refusing your mail, but some automatic spam check)

i fear that there is not much that the scribus guys can do for you.

p.s.: you can probably use the new email to send and your normal address to read the mails...

Nermander

Usually spam blocklists do not block e-mail addresses or domains, but IP addresses (because the senders address can easily be forged).

I have an old homepage (it's in swedish, but the SMTP session is readable) where I made an example why spam blocking (or tracking) must be based on IP addresses rather than anything else.
http://hemma.nermander.se/spam/session.html

The only true information in the header shown at the bottom of that page is the top Received line (split over several lines). Everything else is false.

So changing the e-mail will probably affect anything if the e-mails still pass the same outgoing mail server (normally one uses the outgoing mailserver of the ISP).

So the first point here really is to find out WHY the e-mail got blocked. Is it because of the address or because of the relaying mail server?

If it helps, the only time I am blocked is by the Scribus mailing list. Everyone else allows me to send and receive emails. Most are in the US and Canada but one is in the UK.

Admin

It looks like our provider is using a block list that includes your domain for some reason. We've contacted our provider and will see if this can be corrected.
Scribus Forum Admin. Please PM with questions if you are having administrative problems with the forum.

I just tried to reply to a post and I am still blocked.  :(

One reason for a block is too many emails per unit of time. Unfortunately that's not well defined, but as a first step, break up the mailing list into smaller chunks. If it's more than 100, or possibly 50 names, you may be looking for trouble.

There are email programs such as 32BitEMB which take a mailing list and send one or more messages per user defined time period. Call your provider, the fact that you call somewhat indicates you are not spamming.

Please remove me from the mailing list. I have tried to remove myself but the email is bounced with the same old spammer message.

Thank you.

Edit: I believe I have managed to remove myself from the mailing list. Please ignore the above.
