cannot insert character
« on: May 05, 2017, 09:39:14 pm »
Made small text frame for column name, and got cursor to blink but impossible to insert character, and there is a tiny red X in bottom right;  will not accept paste either.  What is function of tiny X and how to enable editing. Things work fine in other columns.

hi guillaume

the red X is the mark for overflowing text.
either there is already some text in the frame (or just some line breaksā€¦) or the frame is too small to contain the first character (with the present settingsā€¦)

Sometimes the frame has to be a lot larger than you might think for text to "fit". Try enlarging the frame a lot and  add your text, then incrementally drag a corner to reduce the size of the frame bit by bit. You may find you need to leave the frame larger than intuition might suggest.

Thanks for the replies.  I tried and did it:  I enlarged the frame a bit and was able to type.  I am still puzzled by the fact that there was no overflowing, the frame was empty and the characters did fit in the frame.
