Text figures / medieval numbers

How to use text figures (also known as non-lining, lowercase, old style, ranging, hanging, medieval, billing, or antique figures or numerals)?

If I recall correct there is no easy way to input them in Scribus, unless the font in question have them for normal numbers.

So if the font has both tabular numbers and old style figures there is no easy way to choose the latter.

Are upcoming versions of Scribus going to support OSFs, small caps, discretionary ligatures...that sort of font feature?

yes, since the end of last year, the development versions have support for these otf features.

If you can get a recent 1.5.3.svn version, you will see a number of changes. One is that there is now a separate Text Properties palette, and one of its subtabs is Font Features. Under this, you can choose Old Style numerals, if this is available in the font.

Hopefully within in the next few weeks, there should be an official release of 1.5.3.
