[solved] Removing a textbox from a table makes the whole document blank

I've been working on a catalog for the company where i work, its the first time i am working in scribus so i have to learn as i go along, but i would claim that i've got pretty good hang of it as ive used Adobe InDesign in school a few years back, it wasn't that hard to learn scribus.

However ive stubled upon a problem that i can't understand. Tables are not the best in scribus, my personal opinion, but to get similar tables all through the catalog i made a big one, and then i copy it and trim it down to the amount of colums and rows i need, this keeps the same format of the table, but i can still modify them to fit the current need. This worked perfectly untill today, when i try to remove the last row of the table the entire document goes blank. If i render the document to pdf it still notices all the things that used to be there, and it takes a long time to render (just like its rendering everything as normal), but the PDF that i end up with is also blank...

TL:DR is marked with bold

I really dont want to start over.....  :'(

you're right, but with 1.5 tables are much better than before.

something went really wrong. did this happen once? or is it reproducible? – in the case of reproducibility you should file a bug report on bugs.scribus.net and provide a sample file. (mark it as 'privat' or replace the content with blind text...)

if you cann't fix the problem with your file, you can upload it somewhere and send me a pm with the link. i'll take a look at it in the evening. (no warranty of success...)

tables are not good in scribus. that's a fact.

but tables are not either something you MUST use :-)

in your case:

- i would get ridd of the horizontal lines
- use tabulators
- left align the values

this is not an excuse for scribus not needing to improve... but a workaround that might let you solve your issues in a fast and better way :-)

Will my 1.4 project work fine in 1.5 without any issues? If so i'll definitely check it out!

It is reproducible from what i know, i'm not a work anymore, but i'll file a bug report the first thing in the morning. Now when i think back it might have been memory issues as the PC at work is not the best. Thanks a lot for the offer to help, but first i'll try to send the file to my PC at home and see if i can fix it myself. If i cant fix the problem tomorrow i'll pm you and you can try to work you'r magic c:

Hi a.l.e, thanks for the reply!

Ill definitely will try you'r solution tomorrow when i get back to work, I guess remaking/editing all of the tables is still A LOT better then starting from scratch!

yes, it should work in 1.5 – but not the other way round!
if you edit your file in 1.5, there's no way back to 1.4 – and scribus 1.5 is called the unstable branch on the way to the stable release 1.6.
so be careful with it and work always with a copy of your projects – even if it's almost stable enough to be a working release. (for some projects i work with it because of the new features...)

I noticed some things this morning with the project.

- Its only the textbox to the right that messed up the entire project, the one to the left can be removed normaly without problems.
- If i alter the box to the right in anyway the text and the line disappears, and the textbox becomes invisible, the box that indicates a textbox is not visible at all. I can only know where it is by having it marked, and i can still mark it if i know where it is. Nothing that's entered in the box gets displayed

And finally i managed to solve the problem by making sure that everything in the table was ungrouped and not only the boxes i wanted to remove. Should have tried that yesterday  :-[

I still feel like there was som kind of bug involved tho, since it even removed my grids, can i still file a bug report even tho its solved? I still got a file saved that only need to try to remove the box to the right to make the bug happen.

Thanks utnik and a.l.e for trying to help!  :)

hi linus

great, that your problem is solved!
but if there is a bug (a strange behavior of the tables), you should file a report...
