Just gone back to some old files I needed printed up and found all the images have been replaced by red text and crosses. Can't seem to locate a way to rectify this issue?

hi johngold

you moved either the .sla file or the images.
now you have to move the files back or to update the links ('extras' → 'manage images').

for the future i suggest to use the function 'file' → 'collect for output' and store the whole project.

Thanks utnik,

These files contain lots of little mono images for a log book so if poss I would like to find the quickest way to retrieve the images .

Looks like I have somehow put the file with the required images accidently into another one. From your reply I think u r saying there are 2 ways to alter this:

looked at 'extras - manage images'. Presume this way round the idea is to update by simply reloading the images via the boxes quite long tho for the amount of images gone walkabouts.

The other way was to move the files back? Would a change of file names back to the original sort thisprob?

Any further help u may b able to offer would b much appreciated.

if you know, wich directory you moved (and where it was before), the simple solution is to move it back (or copy it to the original position to avoid problems with newer files containing the same images...)

yes, that's the hard way – used if there's no working shortcut.

if you changed the file names before, changing back to original names should work (unless there's some file movement involved...)

as another method to update the links of moved images you could open the .sla file (or – for safety reasons – a copy of it) in a standard text editor and alter the links with 'search and replace' in the xml tree.

for all possible solutions, you need to know the actual location of all the used files. if you didn,t spread them over the whole file system, you may use one of the shortuts. otherwhise it'll be the hard way mentioned above...

Hi again Utnik,

Copied the file that had gone astray, pasted it back into the fold, solved the problem straight away.

Just wanted to thank you for your time and effort
