What effect do you mean? White text on black background?

Or du you mean a "cut out" text where the background shows through? (I think there is a tutorial on that one, the key is to convert the text to a shape.)

ciao federico

probably, what comes closest to the glow effect is a drop shadow... and it's not yet implemented in scribus 1.4.x.

it's in 1.5 but it does not seem to work very well (reporters say that it makes everything run very slow...)

you can try using inkscape for it

http://ionflux.org/en/inkscape_glow_tutorial_01.html (or similar)

and then import the svn into scribus...

If it's the glow effect you want then I agree with a.l.e. Something like Inkscape - at the moment - is much better for that sort of thing.

In Scribus you can achieve a very basic "glow" effect on circles by using gradient fills but it's a lot of work to get it looking reasonably good, and it would probably be quicker to read an Inkscape - or GIMP - tutorial anyway.

P.S. Also, if you are on Linux, Xara http://www.xaraxtreme.org/ can add drop shadows to shapes very quickly. (I'm fairly certain that you can change the shadow colour so it looks like a glow instead, but I don't have my laptop at hand to check.)

In Italy the open source software aren't very popular like in other countries. So, it's hard to find an informations!
